High above the town, at its highest point, the almost 800-year-old church of Nykøbing Sjælland dominates the townscape in the north-west of the island of Zealand. Built in 1225 from red bricks in the Romanesque style, it is one of the oldest two-nave churches in Denmark. Over the centuries, the church has been extended and restored several times. It is still an active parish church today.
During the last renovation, the church's lighting concept was also revised and adapted to the listed building. Pendant luminaires from the Ringo Star series now provide uniform illumination in the nave. Their ring-shaped design blends elegantly into the high vaulted ceilings and creates a discreet but present light structure.
Various programmed lighting scenes allow the lighting to be flexibly adapted to church services, concerts or special occasions. The combination of direct and indirect light highlights architectural details without outshining the historic building fabric.
