How we live responsibility

We believe that true sustainability can only be achieved if all parties work together. At Lightnet, we promote a culture of responsibility and respect in which each individual is encouraged to actively contribute to environmental protection. Through partnerships with companies and organisations, we strive to promote sustainable practices and make a positive impact.

Lightnet aims to inspire with sustainable design and to raise awareness of the important issue of sustainability with consistently sustainable production methods. Through our commitment, we want to create awareness and inspire others to make a contribution as well. For us, ‘Together for Tomorrow’ means taking responsibility together and shaping a better future together.

Freeing the oceans from plastic

At Lightnet, we place a high value on sustainability in every business decision we make. And our commitment goes further than that: we support organisations that are passionate about sustainability. One issue that is particularly important to us is ridding the world's oceans of plastic.
Plastic in the oceans not only threatens the delicate balance of marine ecosystems. Plastic pollution in the world's oceans has far-reaching consequences that affect not only marine life but also the global ecosystem and ultimately us humans. Microplastics – tiny plastic particles that result from the disintegration of larger plastic waste – are spreading in the oceans and entering the food chain. Marine animals often mistake microplastics for food, which leads to digestive problems, poisoning and even death. These microplastics also enter the human food chain through the consumption of marine animals, posing long-term health risks.
Another serious aspect is that microplastics also end up in drinking water and soils. Research has shown that microplastic particles can be detected in drinking water in many regions. The long-term effects on human health have not yet been fully researched, but there is concern that these particles could cause inflammation or toxic reactions in the body.
Furthermore, plastic waste in the oceans affects the carbon storage of the oceans. Phytoplankton and other marine organisms that absorb CO₂ are affected by plastic and the pollutants it contains. Cleaning the oceans is therefore not only essential for the preservation of biodiversity, but also for our own well-being and the future of our planet.
