Lightnet supports the Scottish Wildlife Trust

We are pleased to be working with the Scottish Wildlife Trust in 2025 to support the restoration and protection of two unique peatland sites in Scotland. Peatlands are highly effective water stores, helping to prevent flooding and disastrous flooding. Although peatlands cover only three per cent of the world's land area, they store about twice as much carbon as all the world's forests combined, making them crucial to mitigating climate change. In addition, peatlands are home to rare plants such as peat moss and sundew, as well as many species of birds and small animals.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust is Scotland's leading nature conservation charity, dedicated to protecting the country's wildlife and inspiring care for the environment. Our partnership focuses on two peat bogs: Cander Moss, about 30 minutes from Glasgow, and Bankhead Moss, about an hour from Edinburgh.

Over time, peatland in the UK has been damaged by drainage, cultivation and building. At Cander Moss, invading birch trees are drying out the moor further and threatening its delicate ecosystem. At Bankhead Moss, vegetation is at risk from trampling and the moor itself is compacting, affecting its ecological health. Action is therefore needed to maintain the biodiversity of the habitat while ensuring that the moors continue to store carbon safely.

We are proud to support these important conservation projects and help safeguard Scotland's precious peat bogs for future generations.
